The summer transfer window across Europe came to a close on September 1, with clubs scrambling to complete deals before varying deadlines. According to ESPN, the window shut at 6 p.m. ET for the Premier League, 5:59 p.m. ET for LaLiga, and 2 p.m. ET for Serie A, the German Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. The Athletic reported that Manchester City had agreed a deal to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, though no fee was disclosed. The same outlet said the Portland Timbers were finalising an agreement to acquire Canadian international centre-back Joel Waterman from the Chicago Fire, and that Manchester United striker Chido Obi was in talks to join Dutch club Willem II on loan.
BBC Sport compiled a list of confirmed transfers. Among the most substantial were Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s move from Lille to Newcastle for £51.4 million, Ibrahim Mbaye’s £47 million transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Aston Villa, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis’s £29 million move from Southampton to Aston Villa. The BBC also recorded numerous loan deals and undisclosed fees across the English Football League and other divisions.
The Athletic’s live blog also offered analysis: the outlet expressed concern over Fulham’s transfer business after losing key players, and noted that Manchester United were expected to end the window without signing a specialised left-back despite late checks on Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas.

In a separate story, the Sumo Championship League announced its first-season roster of 45 athletes from nine countries. The league will hold its Chicago competition on Saturday, November 7, at Credit Union 1 Arena in Rosemont, following its October 10 debut in Austin, Texas. A December 19 event is planned in Ontario, California. The roster includes Calumet City’s Samuel Rodriguez III, a 215-pound former U.S. Army military police officer and electrical engineer who won gold at the 2025 Rollertown Sumo Tournament. League Chairman and CEO Stuart Snyder said in a statement that the league is defined by its athletes and that the roster includes world champions and emerging competitors.
