Parisians seek relief in canal during record heatwave
France is experiencing its worst heatwave on record, with Paris exceeding 40°C. The city opened a section of Canal Saint-Martin for swimming, but residents say more adaptation is needed.

France is currently enduring the most severe heatwave in its history. On June 23, temperatures in Paris soared above 40 degrees Celsius, making the city almost unbearable for its inhabitants.
To help residents cope with the exceptionally high temperatures, the city authorities opened a section of the Canal Saint-Martin for swimming. The initiative proved popular, with many Parisians flocking to the canal to cool off.
Despite the success of this measure, residents argue that the city must do more to adapt to such extreme heat. They emphasize the need for long-term solutions to mitigate the effects of future heatwaves and improve urban resilience.
