Paris quantum software firm ColibriTD raises €4 million seed round
French quantum computing startup ColibriTD has closed a €4 million seed round led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with the funds earmarked for platform development and international expansion.
Paris-based quantum software company ColibriTD has closed a €4 million Seed funding round led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with additional participation from SymbiaVC and Medin VC. This marks Earlybird's second investment in the company, following an earlier €1 million pre-Seed round.
Founded in Paris in 2019 by Laurent Guiraud and Hacène Goudjil, ColibriTD builds a quantum-powered multiphysics simulation platform centered on H-DES (Hybrid Differential Equation Solver), a proprietary variational quantum algorithm for solving partial differential equations. These equations underpin simulations across fields ranging from fluid dynamics and material deformation to financial risk modelling, and the company argues that neither classical computing nor AI can match the precision quantum approaches offer for such calculations.
Industry applications
ColibriTD notes that IBM has identified solving partial differential equations as an area where quantum computers could deliver meaningful near-term benefits. The company's QUICK-PDE function is listed in IBM's Qiskit Function Catalogue.
Over recent years, ColibriTD has carried out joint development projects across six technically demanding sectors: defence and aerospace, space and climate science, semiconductor design, nuclear energy, automotive engineering, and quantitative finance.
Co-founder and CEO Laurent Guiraud said the company's original 2019 goal was to move quantum computing beyond academic theory into tangible business value, and that seven successful projects across six sectors now demonstrate this has been achieved.
The new capital will fund further R&D on H-DES, hiring of quantum researchers and domain-expert engineers, hardware expansion, new academic and industrial partnerships, and international growth. ColibriTD says it is also actively seeking new co-construction partners in the finance, defence, semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, and energy sectors.
