The Talsi District Council is preparing to ask the state for half a million euros to cover the restoration of at least 20 road sections damaged by recent heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, the situation caused by the breach of the Dursupes mill pond dam continues to deteriorate – floodwaters are spreading to increasingly distant areas, now reaching as far as Tukums District.

During the past night, several residents and a dog had to be evacuated from flooded homes. Emergency services worked around the clock to ensure the safety of the affected population.

To address the unfolding crisis, an emergency meeting of the responsible Saeima committee has been called for tomorrow, where further measures for dam restoration and aid to the affected communities will be discussed.
