The party that kept winning elections but never governed

A distinctive chapter in Latvia's political history belongs to a party that changed its name several times during its existence — first operating as the "Concord Centre," later simply as "Concord."

Regardless of the name changes, the party established itself over decades as one of the country's leading political forces. In parliamentary elections it consistently posted the strongest results among all political parties, drawing the largest share of voter support.

A paradoxical situation

Despite its steady success at the ballot box, the party never managed to become part of a governing coalition. Year after year it remained in opposition, even though it was formally the political organization that received the most votes in the country.
