The "Stability!" party: from expulsion from Harmony to founding a new political force
The "Stability!" party was founded on 26 January 2021, during Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, by former Riga city council members Aleksejs Roslikovs and Valērijs Petrovs, who had been expelled from the Harmony party in 2019.
The "Stability!" party was established on 26 January 2021, at a time when Covid-19 pandemic restrictions were in force in Latvia. Its leaders at the time were two former Riga city council deputies: Aleksejs Roslikovs, chairman of the United Police Trade Union and formerly a co-owner of a security business, and lawyer Valērijs Petrovs.
The road from Harmony
Both politicians had previously been members of the "Harmony" (Saskaņas Centrs) party but were expelled from it in spring 2019. The expulsion followed events triggered by the election of the party's leader and long-serving Riga mayor, Nils Ušakovs, to the European Parliament. This created a need to elect a new deputy mayor of Riga, but Roslikovs and Petrovs refused to vote for the candidacy of fellow party member Sandis Bergmanis for the post. Their refusal caused the collapse of the Riga city council coalition at the time, after which the two politicians were expelled from Harmony.
Nearly two years later, in January 2021, Roslikovs and Petrovs founded a new political force called "Stability!".
