None of the representatives from Estonia's women's or men's epee teams managed to win a medal in the individual events at the World Fencing Championships currently taking place in Hong Kong.

In the women's competition, top favorite Katrina Lehis, who won silver last year and became European champion a month ago, started from the round of 32. She convincingly defeated Finland's Suvi Lehtonen 15-5 but unexpectedly lost in the round of 16 to Russia's Anastasia Rustamova, finishing 17th.

Other Estonian women's epee fencers – Irina Embrich (37th), Veronika Zuikova (59th), and Julia Beljajeva (75th) – placed even lower.

The women's individual gold went to South Korea's Sera Song, who beat Italy's Giulia Rizzi 9-8 in a dramatic final. In the men's event, Switzerland's Lucas Malcotti surprised by winning gold; he defeated Estonia's top male fencer Sten Priinits (48th) in the round of 32.

Estonian epee fencers will still compete in the team events on July 28 and 29.
