One of the day's key matches

Today's World Cup program includes four matches, with the spotlight on the Group C game between Brazil and Morocco. The five-time champions and the previous tournament's semifinalists will meet in New York on Sunday at 1 AM Latvian time. The match will be broadcast on TV6 and Go3 Sport channels.

The two teams are neighbors in the FIFA rankings — Brazil is sixth, Morocco seventh. They previously met in the 1998 World Cup group stage, with Brazil winning 3-0.

Other matches today

Also on today's schedule: at 10 PM in San Francisco, Group B sees Qatar vs. Switzerland; at 4 AM in Boston, Group C features Scotland vs. Haiti; and at 7 AM in Vancouver, Group D has Australia vs. Turkey.

Group C is considered one of the toughest, featuring Scotland (returning after a 28-year absence) and debutants Haiti. Notably, Scotland also shared a group with Brazil and Morocco in 1998.

Other group matches and tournament format

First matches in Groups B and D took place on Friday. In Group B, Canada drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina; in Group D, the USA beat Paraguay 4-1.

This is the first World Cup with 48 teams, divided into 12 groups of four. The top two from each group and the eight best third-placed teams advance to the knockout stage. The group stage ends on June 27, and knockout matches start on June 28. Semifinals are on July 14 and 15, the third-place match on July 18, and the final on July 19. The previous World Cup in 2022 in Qatar was won by Argentina.
