In a FIFA World Cup group match held in Dallas (USA), Japan and the Netherlands shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw. The first half ended goalless despite an early effort from Dutch forward Donyell Malen, who tested Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki in the third minute.
The deadlock was broken in the 51st minute when Virgil van Dijk headed home from a Ryan Gravenberch cross. Japan equalized six minutes later: Takefusa Kubo set up Keito Nakamura, whose long-range shot deflected into the net. The Netherlands regained the lead in the 64th minute through Crysencio Summerville, assisted by Gravenberch again.
Japan salvaged a point in the 88th minute when Daichi Kamada headed in from a corner kick by Koki Ogawa, with the ball deflecting off a Dutch player.
