First Semi-Final: France vs Spain

The World Cup is down to four matches, with the top four teams competing for the title and podium places. On Tuesday, July 14, the first semi-final will feature Spain and France. For the first time in years, the four best teams according to the FIFA rankings have reached the semi-finals: Argentina, France, Spain, and England.

France has showcased the fastest and most spectacular football at this tournament, focused entirely on attack. Four attacking players have scored: Kylian Mbappé leads the tournament with 8 goals, Ousmane Dembélé has 5, Bradley Barcola 2, and Désiré Doué 1. France has kept clean sheets in all three knockout matches. An additional motivator for Didier Deschamps' team is the national holiday on July 14 – Bastille Day, a day of victory and pride. If France reaches the final, they will match Germany and Brazil's achievement of playing in three consecutive World Cup finals.

Spain, in contrast, has relied on careful defensive play throughout the tournament. However, their clean sheet streak ended in the quarter-final against Belgium, when goalkeeper Unai Simón conceded for the first time after five matches. Spain often controlled possession but struggled to score. Mikel Merino has been a key super-sub in the knockout stage, scoring twice in injury time – first against Portugal and then against Belgium.

Four Spanish players celebrate birthdays this week, including star Lamine Yamal, who turned 19 on July 13. His teammates gave him a cake and expect goals from him; so far he has only one goal, against Saudi Arabia.

The first semi-final takes place on July 14 at 10:00 PM (local time). The second semi-final on July 15 will be between England and Argentina. Both matches will be broadcast live with Russian commentary on ETV+ and Rus.ERR.
