Three people died from asphyxiation in Mexico City while celebrating Mexico's World Cup victory over Ecuador.

Three people have died in Mexico City after locals celebrated Mexico's 2-0 win over Ecuador in the World Cup. According to the city's health secretary, a 44-year-old man, a 48-year-old woman, and a 19-year-old woman died from asphyxiation. Emergency crews were called to the Juárez area of the capital after three people were reported unconscious following Tuesday night's match. Paramedics, firefighters, and police officers responded. The victims received first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and were taken to hospital, but later declared dead. Clara Brugada Molina, head of the government of Mexico City, expressed condolences on social media and urged the public to celebrate responsibly. Mexico's victory was fueled by goals from Raúl Jiménez and Julián Quiñones, advancing the co-hosts to the round of 16, where they will face either England or the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
