Pasažieru vilciens, the Latvian state-owned passenger railway company operating under the brand Vivi, has announced it will impose a fine of €5.7 million on the Czech company Škoda Vagonka. According to the LETA news agency, citing Pasažieru vilciens board chairman Raitis Nešports, the penalty is for violations of delivery deadlines for electric trains and defects that were not rectified within the agreed time frame.

The contract with Škoda Vagonka involved the purchase of new electric trains, but deliveries have been delayed, and some trains have reported defects that the manufacturer failed to fix on time. As a result, Pasažieru vilciens is exercising its contractual rights to demand penalties.

The announcement does not specify how the fine will affect future cooperation or whether Škoda Vagonka will acknowledge the violations. However, such sanctions serve as a strong signal regarding supplier accountability and adherence to contractual obligations.
