The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has announced that as of October 1 this year, information about shelters will be published on the state portal “kadastrs.lv”. This step is intended to provide residents with easier access to civil protection data in one place.

During a meeting with the leadership of the State Land Service (SLS), Minister of Justice Edvards Smiltēns (AS) also discussed the “Vietvaris” project, which will significantly speed up the process of coordinating place names and addresses. Currently, this procedure takes two to three months, but the new solution will reduce it to approximately ten days. It will also reduce manual work, simplify data exchange between the SLS, the State Language Centre, and municipalities, and ensure more accurate and up-to-date address data.

Minister Smiltēns emphasized that every day a resident or entrepreneur spends waiting for a state service is time that could be used more productively. He noted that the goal is not only to introduce new digital solutions but also to achieve a real reduction in bureaucracy and acceleration of processes.

SLS Director General Vita Narnicka stressed that the institution must constantly change to provide increasingly high-quality and understandable services. She noted that the SLS has been developing rapidly in recent years and is ready, in cooperation with the MoJ, to reorganize existing services and offer new ones, working to make Latvia a developed and safe country.

The meeting also discussed the introduction of a unified building registration process, which already simplifies building registration, as well as the further development of the SLS.

It is planned that a new office and the Zemgale central archive repository will be opened in Jelgava at the end of this year. In 2027, a new office and the Kurzeme archive repository are planned to be established in Liepāja, as well as the Vidzeme central archive repository in Cēsis.
