Shelter Upgrades in Vidzeme Municipalities: Work Under Way in Some Areas, Delays Elsewhere
More than 26 million euros from the state budget and EU funds have been allocated across Latvia to adapt and equip shelters. In several Vidzeme municipalities work is already under way, while elsewhere it is delayed.

Municipalities across Latvia, including those in the Vidzeme region, are adapting shelters for use in crisis situations. Ensuring residents' safety and providing safe shelters is one of the key tasks of local governments. In some Vidzeme municipalities work is already in progress, while in others it has been delayed.
Funding and goal
More than 26 million euros from the state budget and European Union funds have been allocated nationwide for adapting and equipping shelters. The money is intended to bring at least 570 shelters into order within a few years.
Situation in Vidzeme
In several Vidzeme municipalities work is actively under way. They are adapting basements they own and purchasing the necessary equipment. Elsewhere the work is delayed.
