Pauls Jonass takes fifth place at Turkish Grand Prix as Herlings clinches world title

At the 17th round of the motocross world championship in Turkey, Latvia's Pauls Jonass finished fifth overall in the MXGP class. The round was won by Dutch rider Jeffrey Herlings, who had already secured his third world championship title after winning the first race of the day.

Second race

Herlings claimed another victory in the second race, finishing less than half a second ahead of Frenchman Tom Vialle and more than 28 seconds ahead of fellow Frenchman Romain Febvre. Jonass had a fluctuating race, ending the first lap in fourth place, moving up to third on the second lap, then dropping back to fourth on the third lap and finally to fifth, where he finished.

Round standings

Combining results from both races, Herlings topped the round with 50 points. Three riders tied on 40 points, with Vialle taking second, Febvre third, and Slovenian Tim Gajser fourth. Jonass placed fifth with 31 points, edging out Italian Andrea Adamo, who scored the same total.

Championship standings

Herlings also won the first race, finishing ahead of Gajser and Febvre, a result that already guaranteed him the title before the second race began. After 17 rounds, Herlings leads the world championship standings with 855 points, followed by Febvre with 699 and Gajser with 659. Jonass sits tenth overall with 366 points.

The world championship features 19 rounds this season. Following the Turkish round, riders will travel to China and Australia, with the season concluding in early October with the Motocross of Nations.
