Pauls Jonass finishes fifth twice in China, takes fifth overall
Latvian motocross rider Pauls Jonass placed fifth in both MXGP motos at the World Championship round in China, also finishing fifth overall in the round standings. One round remains this season, in Australia.
At the penultimate, 18th round of the motocross World Championship in China, Latvian rider Pauls Jonass finished fifth in both MXGP motos, securing overall fifth place for the round as well.
In the first moto, Jonass held fifth position for most of the race and crossed the finish line there. The moto was won by Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings, who had already clinched the world title. Herlings was fastest again in the second moto, ahead of Frenchman Romain Febvre, while Jonass once again finished fifth.
Round standings and championship table
Herlings dominated the overall standings for the China Grand Prix with 50 points. Febvre took second with 44 points, and Tom Vialle placed third with 40. Jonass's 32 points were enough for fifth place.
In the MXGP World Championship standings, Herlings has already secured the title with 915 points, with Febvre second on 752 points. Jonass sits tenth with 400 points.
MX2 class: the Reišulis brothers
In the MX2 class's first moto, Jānis Reišulis finished seventh and Kārlis Reišulis 11th. Both improved in the second moto, placing fourth and sixth respectively. The motos were won by South African Camden McLellan and Spaniard Guillem Farres, with McLellan also taking the overall round win. Jānis Reišulis finished fifth overall with 32 points, while Kārlis Reišulis was eighth with 25 points.
In the MX2 World Championship standings ahead of the final round, Farres leads with 859 points, followed by McLellan with 811. Jānis Reišulis holds sixth place with 644 points, with Kārlis Reišulis seventh on 528 points.
The World Championship features 19 rounds this season. After China, riders head to Australia, with the season concluding in early October with the Motocross of Nations.
