Latvian motocross rider Pauls Jonass finished seventh in the MXGP qualification at the ninth round of the World Championship in Portugal on Saturday.
Belgian rider Lucas Coenen topped the timesheets, beating Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings by 4.342 seconds. Spaniard Ruben Fernandez completed the top three.
Jonass had moved up to sixth place in the second part of the qualification session but dropped to seventh in the final two laps, holding that position to the finish.
In the MX2 class, Jānis Mārtiņš Reišulis was sixth, while Kārlis Alberts Reišulis finished seventh. The qualification winner was Spaniard Guillem Fares.
Both classes are set to hold their main races on Sunday.
