The fight

In the co-main event of UFC 332 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, rising bantamweight prospect Payton Talbott faced Brazilian veteran Deiveson Figueiredo. According to Yahoo Sports, Talbott earned a convincing TKO victory, reinforcing his reputation as one of the division's most dangerous young fighters. Tension had already built the day before, as the ceremonial weigh-in face-off nearly turned ugly, according to a report cited in Yahoo Sports' roundup.

With the win, Talbott (11-1 heading into the bout) extended his impressive run. In his previous outing at UFC 323 in December, he ran through former two-division champion and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo, as reported by MMA Fighting.

Figueiredo's difficult stretch

An opinion piece published by MMA Sucka before the fight — which correctly predicted a Talbott win — described Figueiredo as increasingly being used by the UFC to elevate younger stars. The 38-year-old Brazilian is a two-time former UFC flyweight champion who moved up to bantamweight in 2023. After an initial three-fight win streak there, including victories over Marlon Vera and Cody Garbrandt, he suffered a string of setbacks, losing to Petr Yan, Cory Sandhagen, and later to Umar Nurmagomedov and Song Yadong, with a single win over Montel Jackson in between.

Eyes on a flyweight return

According to Brazilian outlet Lance!, Figueiredo has said he wants to return to flyweight to challenge current champion Joshua Van, who recently defeated Alexandre Pantoja. Figueiredo expressed confidence he could make the 57kg limit again, crediting work with a new nutritionist, though such a move depends on UFC approval and, at the time of those comments, he still had his bantamweight commitment against Talbott to fulfill first.

Rest of the card

In the UFC 332 main event, Natalia Silva won the vacant women's flyweight title, defeating Wang Cong over five rounds after Valentina Shevchenko vacated the belt due to injury. Yahoo Sports' recap noted the card featured several quick knockouts, with a combined $100,000 in post-fight bonuses awarded to multiple fighters, including Pinas and Walker.
