To avoid sudden lapses in disability status, amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 805 will take effect on July 1, 2026. The State Medical Commission for Health and Work Capability Examination (VDEĀVK) will now inform individuals about the approaching end of their disability status and the progress of their examination.

Notifications will be sent to the individual's email and official electronic address. When submitting an application, individuals can indicate whether they wish to receive such notifications. If not, they can opt out by submitting a written request to VDEĀVK. It is also possible to change the email address for receiving information.

Other Changes

The amendments also include changes to the self-assessment questionnaire for functional abilities. Methodical instructions will now be placed next to the relevant questions rather than at the end of the form to make it easier to understand. Additionally, the regulations now require that VDEĀVK doctors assess a functional category only if it correlates with the diagnosis and is significantly impaired. The provision allowing doctors to submit documents for examination via the latvija.lv portal has been removed, as authentication identifies the doctor as the submitter rather than the individual being assessed.
