Winners of "Best Building in Latvia 2025" competition announced

Latvia has held the 28th edition of its annual "Best Building in Latvia" competition, recognizing outstanding construction projects completed in 2025 across categories ranging from residential buildings to engineering structures and landscape projects.

Category winners

In the new residential building category, top honors were shared between projects in Mārupe and Riga, while the renovation and reconstruction category was won by the Estonian Embassy building in Riga. In engineering structures, the winner was the flood protection dam in Jēkabpils, while the border infrastructure development along Latvia's borders with Belarus and Russia was named the engineering structure of the year.

In landscape construction, the second stage of Uzvaras Park in Riga took first place. The wooden construction category was won by a building complex belonging to AS "Latvijas Finieris" in Krimulda municipality, while the production building award went to the Baltic Cargo Hub near Riga Airport. In the public new building category, the Magdalēna Quarter office buildings in Riga took first place and also received additional awards for BIM technology use and concrete application.

Additional awards

Several Latvian construction companies received recognition for projects abroad, including in Lithuania, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Estonia. Industry organizations and partners also presented a number of special awards, including for structural engineer of the year, wood application, and landscape architecture.

In the public vote, the Lielā Ezerkrasta promenade in Ludza was named the most significant building, receiving the majority of the votes cast. All entries submitted to the competition are compiled in an annual yearbook. Organizers are already inviting submissions for next year's competition, which can be made at any time after a building is put into use, until March 31 of the following year. The competition is organized by the Latvian Builders' Association and the Latvian Association of Civil Engineers together with several industry organizations and state institutions.
