State Labour Inspectorate probes death of worker at Ogre Kalna Primary School

The State Labour Inspectorate (VDI) has launched an investigation into the sudden death of a technical worker at Ogre Kalna Primary School. Labour officials went to the scene immediately after receiving information about the incident. During the inspection, testimonies are being collected and all circumstances examined to determine whether the case can be classified as an accident at work.

The inspectorate stressed that any conclusions about the causes of death and possible violations of occupational safety requirements can only be made after the investigation has been completed and all details have been thoroughly assessed. According to information available so far, the deceased had been hired only five days earlier as a replacement for another employee who was on sick leave. His duties included both gardening and janitorial work.

The worker had arrived at the school in the morning and begun his duties, but after a rest break he was found unresponsive. Resuscitation was started immediately and an ambulance was called, but the man's life could not be saved. Ogre Municipality said that, based on the information available to it, the employee died during a rest period and the death was not related to the performance of work duties or breaches of safety rules. The municipality informed the VDI about the incident.

State Police representative Līga Dziļuma previously told LETA that there is no indication of a criminal offence and that no further information is currently available. The investigation is ongoing, and its results are expected to clarify the full circumstances.
