Last Friday, July 10, an accident occurred in Riga when a Latvian Railways employee fell into the Daugava River while repairing the Railway Bridge. The incident happened in the morning.

Rescuers, including divers, immediately began searching but stopped in the afternoon. The man has not been found yet.

Latvian Railways confirmed that one of its workers was involved but declined further comment while the circumstances are being clarified.

The State Labour Inspectorate (VDI) has launched an investigation. Baiba Šilberga, head of the Riga regional VDI, stated that it is currently impossible to classify whether the worker sustained injuries or died because he has not been found. The inspectorate will check whether the worker had been properly trained in safety measures and plans to interview witnesses. "The status is quite uncertain," Šilberga added.
