After rainy days, Latvia set for calmer, sunnier weather

Latvia experienced typically autumnal weather over the past week, as active cyclone activity brought cloudy, rainy days and cooler nights. The lowest temperature was recorded at the Madona weather station, where the air cooled to +3°C during the night of September 22. Astronomical autumn began in the middle of last week, and since Saturday nights have been longer than days across the country.

Anticyclone to bring improvement

The coming week will be shaped by an anticyclone, which will raise atmospheric pressure and cause clouds to gradually disperse, bringing more sunshine and generally drier conditions. Monday will be sunny, though clouds will appear at times, with no precipitation expected. On Tuesday and Wednesday cloud cover will increase, and light rain is possible in some areas. With weak winds, fog is expected to form during nights and mornings, reducing visibility.

Temperature fluctuations

Nighttime temperatures across most of the country will range between +6°C and +11°C, though cloud cover will affect regional variation. During the night into Monday, clearer skies will allow temperatures in eastern regions to drop to +3–6°C. In contrast, during the night into Wednesday, cloud cover will keep minimum temperatures higher, around +11–15°C. Daytime temperatures will warm to +14–19°C.

In early October, calm weather is expected to continue, with light winds and no significant precipitation. Daytime temperatures may still briefly exceed +15°C, but the advance of autumn will become increasingly noticeable, with temperatures gradually dropping and nights growing cooler.
