Following the storm that hit Latvia over the weekend, insurance companies have already received a significant number of claims for damages caused. According to Jānis Abāšins, president of the Latvian Insurers Association, in an interview with Latvian Radio on Monday, around 1,000 claims have been registered so far.

Abāšins stressed that the current figures on the extent of the damage are still very preliminary, as the assessment of damages and processing of claims is ongoing. However, he said the total amount insurers will need to pay out in compensation is likely to be measured in millions of euros.

More precise data on the damage caused by the storm, as well as the final number of claims, will become known later, once insurers have reviewed the submitted claims and determined the actual extent of the losses.
