The sudden resignation of Jens Spahn has set off a large-scale personnel reshuffle in the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), according to analysis on Politico’s “EU Confidential” podcast. Journalists Rixa Fürsen and Miriam Hollstein of BILD examined the restructuring of the party’s power center.

The changes include Nina Warken’s move to the Chancellery, while Carsten Linnemann takes over the health portfolio. Fritz Güntzler, meanwhile, rejected an offer to lead the Transport Ministry via text message.

Economy Minister Katherina Reiche’s future remains uncertain, and Chancellor Merz has already announced further personnel steps. The podcast also discusses potential consequences for the Social Democratic Party (SPD) ahead of upcoming state elections.

Vice Chancellor and SPD co-chair Lars Klingbeil was reportedly informed but not involved in decision-making. The podcast’s authors suggest this situation reflects a realignment of power within German politics.
