The Council for Electronic Public Media (SEPLP) plans to prepare a legislative proposal after the elections to the 15th Saeima that would formally embed the brand names of Latvijas Radio and Latvijas Televīzija in law. The initiative received backing from the Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee on Tuesday, July 14, as reported by Latvijas Radio.

The proposed bill aims to prevent any future changes or replacements of the two public broadcasters' names. Currently, Latvijas Radio and Latvijas Televīzija operate as separate entities, but their brands lack specific legal protection. Following the elections, SEPLP intends to secure the inclusion of these names in relevant legislation.

The committee's support marks a step forward, but the final decision rests with the next Saeima. Elections for the 15th Saeima are scheduled for 2026.
