After storm, around 277,000 households left without power; wind and rain to continue through Sunday
Following Saturday night's storm and heavy rain, about 277,000 households across Latvia were without electricity on Sunday morning. Kurzeme and the country's central and southeastern regions were hit hardest.

On Sunday morning, following an overnight storm and heavy rainfall, roughly 277,000 households across Latvia were left without electricity, according to grid operator Sadales tīkls.
The company reported that large-scale power outages occurred not only in the distribution network but also in the network of transmission system operator Augstsprieguma tīkls, affecting electricity supply for a large number of customers throughout Latvia.
The Kurzeme region, along with the central and southeastern parts of the country, suffered the most damage from the storm.
Conditions to persist
Strong winds and rain are expected to continue across Latvia on Sunday, meaning restoration work could be complicated further and the risk of additional damage remains.
