The American celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is recovering in hospital after concerned viewers alerted authorities about a livestream in which he seemed to injure himself. Emergency crews were dispatched to his Miami residence on Tuesday following reports of a man broadcasting self-harm on social media.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said the individual was "safely recovered" and transported to a local hospital for medical care. The agency also said its crisis response unit and licensed mental health professionals were present, offering support and resources to the family. In an earlier statement, deputies explained they had spoken with family and then decided to "tactically disengage" while maintaining surveillance, emphasizing that de-escalation is often the priority in such crises.

The sheriff's office did not name Hilton in its statements, though details matched reports about the blogger. Later it confirmed the man had been taken to hospital. Hilton's managers, Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, issued a joint statement saying they were aware of concerning content online and had been unable to make direct contact with him. They stressed that his health and well-being, along with that of his family, was their primary concern, and asked for privacy.

Hilton, born Mario Lavandeira, gained fame in the early 2000s with his celebrity gossip website. His often sharp and sarcastic posts drew criticism from many stars, including Miley Cyrus, Khloe Kardashian, Mila Kunis and Lady Gaga. In recent years, however, he apologised for his earlier harsh behaviour and worked to reshape his public image, embracing a kinder and more family-oriented persona. He is also a father of three children via surrogacy.

In his 2020 memoir, Hilton expressed regret for hurting people with nasty nicknames and being unkind to celebrities' children. He continues to run his blog, social media channels and podcast. BBC News reported that it had sought comment from Hilton's representatives, TikTok and Miami police, with only the managers' statement provided.
