New business district planned on site of former dairy plant in Pärnu
A developer plans to build a business district with companies, entertainment venues and a multifunctional hall on the site of a former dairy plant in Pärnu. Construction could start within a couple of years and cost 50–60 million euros.
In the Estonian city of Pärnu, at the entrance from the Tallinn side, a developer plans to turn the site of a former dairy plant into a new urban district combining business and entertainment infrastructure. Demolition of the old plant building is currently underway and is expected to continue until next spring. Part of the existing structures will be preserved, Estonian public broadcaster ERR's programme "Aktuaalne kaamera" reported.
An ambitious project
Viljo Vetik, head of the company Port Artur Maxi, presented the plans. According to him, construction could begin in a couple of years and will proceed in stages. Developing the area is expected to cost between 50 and 60 million euros in total.
The planned plot covers 13 hectares and is meant to host various types of buildings, including shops, businesses and production facilities. Vetik referred to the new district as the city's gateway.
Multifunctional hall and city plans
One highlight of the project is a multifunctional hall with capacity for up to 3,000 people, intended for hosting various events. Vetik said interest in such a venue has existed for a while and continues to grow.
The city of Pärnu is also working on its own development plan for the area, but the company says it began developing its ideas even before the city presented its vision. According to Vetik, work on the project is moving forward gradually.
