Pärnu Music Festival drew nearly 35,000 music lovers

The 16th Pärnu Music Festival, which concluded last week, saw a total audience of nearly 35,000, with 13,000 attending in person and 22,000 watching online broadcasts. The concert program featured conductors Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi, and Kristjan Järvi, alongside leading international soloists and five orchestras, bringing together 300 musicians.

Kristjan Hallik, the chief organizer, noted that concerts took place every evening. He emphasized the festival's role in boosting tourism and the economy in Estonia and Pärnu, as well as supporting the development of classical music in Estonia and strengthening international professional ties.

Each year, the festival's international program highlights world premieres of new works by Estonian composers. This year, four Estonian composers had their new pieces premiered in Pärnu, most of which were recorded for release on disc. Running parallel to the festival, the Järvi Academy hosted 130 young musicians, 55 of whom were from Estonia. For the most ambitious participants, the festival serves as a first step toward studying abroad or joining international orchestras.

The next Pärnu Music Festival is scheduled for July 8–18, 2027. Among other events, it will celebrate the 90th birthday of Neeme Järvi.
