Peskov: 'Every day that passes' worsens Kyiv's position

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that with each passing day, Moscow will escalate its demands toward Kyiv regarding an end to the war. He made the remark when asked whether a prolonged peace process would mean increasingly unfavorable terms for Ukraine.
Peskov confirmed that this is indeed what should be expected, recalling that Russia has long stated that every day that passes worsens the position of what it calls the "Kyiv regime" — the term Russian officials use for Ukraine's government.
Declined to discuss talks with US envoys
Peskov avoided commenting on what US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may have conveyed to Kyiv during their visit to Ukraine. He said anything related to the efforts of American negotiators would not be commented on, and that such matters should proceed quietly.
The Kremlin spokesman also repeated that Moscow has long since set out the conditions under which it would be ready to settle the war, and expressed confidence in Russia's military performance, claiming that "victory is very close."
Background
Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014, occupying Crimea and part of the Donbas, before launching a full-scale invasion in 2022. Russian forces continue daily strikes across Ukraine that kill civilians, yet after more than four years of full-scale war have failed to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Russia's Defense Ministry and President Vladimir Putin periodically announce the capture of individual settlements, claims that Ukraine's armed forces regularly deny.
