Meteorologists forecast mostly cloudy, rainy weather across most of Latvia on Friday, accompanied by gusty winds. Showers are expected in many areas, and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out in some places.

The heaviest precipitation is expected in the Kurzeme and Vidzeme regions, where the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) has issued a yellow-level warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms, valid until Friday evening.

Wind and temperature

Southern and western winds will gust at 12–17 metres per second, though wind will be weaker in northern Kurzeme and northwestern Vidzeme. Daytime air temperatures will reach +16 to +19 degrees Celsius. In Riga, rain is forecast, with the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms; southwestern wind gusts may reach up to 15 metres per second, while the temperature will not exceed +18 degrees.

The weather across the country is being shaped by a low-pressure area. Atmospheric pressure at sea level ranges from 1000 hectopascals in the northwest to 1008 hectopascals in southern Latgale.

Possible flooding

Due to heavy precipitation and waterlogged soil, water bodies may overflow their banks in Kurzeme and parts of Vidzeme, with water also expected to pool in low-lying areas. A yellow-level LVĢMC warning for high water levels remains in effect in Kurzeme until Monday.
