Heavy Downpours and Thunderstorms Forecast Across Latvia on Friday
Meteorologists warn that Friday will bring an unusually rainy day across Latvia, with heavy rain and localized thunderstorms expected, particularly in Kurzeme and Vidzeme. A yellow warning for high water levels is in effect in Kurzeme until Monday.

Latvia is set for a markedly unsettled and wet Friday, with forecasters warning of heavy rain affecting much of the country both overnight and during the day. Thunderstorms are possible in some areas, and the heaviest rainfall is expected in the Kurzeme and Vidzeme regions.
Skies will be mostly cloudy, with winds blowing from the south and west, gusting locally to 12–17 meters per second. Overnight temperatures will range from +11 to +16 degrees, while daytime highs will reach +15 to +19 degrees.
Conditions in Riga
The capital will also see cloudy, rainy weather over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of heavy rain or thunderstorms. Winds will shift gradually from south to southwest, gusting up to 14 meters per second. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +14 degrees, while daytime readings will climb to around +18 degrees.
Flood risk warning
Due to the heavy rainfall combined with already saturated soil, there is a risk that bodies of water in Kurzeme, and in parts of Vidzeme, could overflow their banks, with water potentially pooling in low-lying areas. Latvia's Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has issued a yellow warning for high water levels in Kurzeme, valid until Monday.
