According to data released by Eurostat, in the first quarter of this year, Latvia's general government debt as a share of GDP increased at a faster pace compared to the same period last year than the average for the European Union.

The growth rate of Latvia's debt exceeded the EU average during this period. While exact figures were not disclosed, the trend indicates that Latvia's debt burden is rising more rapidly relative to its economy than in many other EU member states.

This data point is notable as it highlights differences in fiscal trends among EU countries. Faster debt growth can impact a country's creditworthiness and borrowing costs, and it may signal underlying economic challenges or policy choices.
