First Trains Expected at New Riga Station in 2028
According to project implementers, the completion of the new Riga station and the arrival of the first trains are planned for 2028. Due to funding shortages, some objects will need to be mothballed, while finished spaces may be used for public events.

Project implementers have announced that the first electric trains in the new Riga station could start running in 2028. After the station building is completed, work on railway infrastructure will continue without interruption, as funding for that phase has been secured.
The new part of the station will primarily serve electric trains, while the northern section will retain existing infrastructure, including wooden platforms. However, since full funding for the "Rail Baltica" project is currently lacking, some already constructed objects will have to be mothballed at state expense, potentially costing several million euros.
Consideration is being given to using the completed station spaces for exhibitions and other public events until train services begin.
