On 20 October 1910, the passenger steamship Olympic was launched. It was the first of three nearly identical ships, a series that also included the famous Titanic. This year marks 116 years since the event.
The Titanic sank in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg, and that disaster is far better known than the other ships of the series. Yet the Titanic was only one of the trio, and its elder sister, the Olympic, was the first to be built and put into the water.
Unlike the Titanic, the Olympic stayed in service for a long time. After its launch, the ship went on to sail successfully across the Atlantic Ocean for another 25 years.
