This afternoon, drivers leaving Riga should prepare for intense and slowed traffic in the Pierīga area. Road authorities advise planning extra travel time and avoiding peak hours.

On the Bauska highway at the entrance to Riga, both lanes will be opened without restrictions later today. However, construction will continue until early July, so temporary restrictions may still occur.

Currently, roadworks are underway on 69 state road sections across Latvia, where drivers should expect restrictions and slower traffic. The most significant restrictions on main state roads include:

  • On the Daugavpils highway from Gospori to Nīcgale – two traffic light sections, crossing time approximately 40 minutes.
  • From Kalniški to Ļūbasta – crossing time about 25 minutes.
  • On the Daugavpils bypass.
  • On the Rēzekne–Ludza–Terehova road near Ludza – speed limits, crossing time about 20 minutes.

On regional state roads, the biggest restrictions are on sections from Vecpiebalga to Madona, from Litene to Balvi, on the Bauska–Aizkraukle road from Ozolaine to Bārbele, and on the Roja–Valdemārpils road. All these sections have multiple traffic light zones, and drivers should budget at least an extra half hour.

On the regional road Tīnūži–Koknese, asphalt concrete pavement renewal is underway over more than 48 kilometers. Work is divided into two sections with speed limits, and an additional half hour should be expected.
