Plan to separate National Botanical Garden from Nature Conservation Agency
On 27 October the Latvian government conceptually backed an informational report proposing to separate the National Botanical Garden in Salaspils from the Nature Conservation Agency.

The Latvian government on Tuesday, 27 October, gave conceptual approval to an informational report that envisages separating the National Botanical Garden in Salaspils from the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP). DAP is the state institution under which the garden currently operates.
The government endorsed the idea of detaching the garden from the agency in principle. The information available does not say what legal status the garden would have after the separation, which institution would take it over, when the changes could take effect or how much they would cost.
Because the decision is conceptual, it does not mean the garden has already been separated. More specific solutions and deadlines will become clear once further documents are prepared.
