Plaud launches earbuds designed to automatically record and transcribe meetings
Plaud, known for its conversation-recording gadgets, has released Plaud One earbuds that can record and transcribe both in-person and online conversations without needing a phone. Pre-orders have opened at $250, with shipping expected by year's end.
Plaud, previously known for the Note and Note Pro devices that magnetically attach to a phone to record conversations, has introduced a new product: the Plaud One earbuds. Unlike its earlier devices, these earbuds don't require a phone to record and transcribe conversations, whether in person or online.
This is made possible by an LTE module built into the charging case. Plaud has arranged agreements with carriers in more than 80 countries and regions so the earbuds can connect to the internet without a separate cellular contract. Each earbud carries 16MB of local storage, while the case adds another 512MB, together allowing for up to 30 hours of recording. The earbuds can also capture audio directly from video calling apps such as Google Meet and Zoom, and the case itself has built-in microphones so users can record meetings or notes without wearing the earbuds at all.
Automatic processing and an AI assistant
Recordings upload automatically to Plaud's servers, where they're transcribed and summarized. Afterward, the company's AI assistant can generate reports, suggest follow-up actions and perform tasks within apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion and Slack. The assistant can be triggered with a voice command or a button on the case.
The earbuds can also be used for music and podcasts by pairing them with a phone via Bluetooth 5.4, which supports connecting to two devices at once. However, codec support is limited, meaning iPhone users won't get high-resolution audio benefits. The earbuds include active noise cancellation and IP54 dust and splash resistance.
Plaud is selling a $250 "Explorer Edition" aimed at early adopters, with pre-orders now open in select markets and shipping expected before the end of the year. Each unit comes with bonus tokens for AI features, though most users will likely need a subscription to make full use of the transcription capabilities.
