Pļaviņš/Fokerots edge past Portugal in tight battle; Latvian beach volleyball teams enjoy successful day at CEV Nations Cup
Latvian men's duo Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristians Fokerots defeated the Portuguese pair 21:18, 21:19 on Tuesday, while both Latvian women's teams recorded wins and the Točs/Auziņš duo also won, though both men's pairs had earlier losses to Israel.

At the CEV Nations Cup final tournament, the Latvian beach volleyball teams played their group A matches on July 16. In the women's competition, the duo Līva Ēbere/Deniela Konstantinova started with a loss to the Czech pair Kleiblova/Dvornikova (20:22, 19:21), while Tīna Graudiņa/Anastasija Samoilova defeated the Czech duo Lorenzova/Thomasova (21:18, 21:15).
Later, both women's pairs faced Norway: Ēbere/Konstantinova won 21:14, 21:12, and Graudiņa/Samoilova dominated 21:9, 21:9. In the men's section, Edgars Točs/Gustavs Auziņš first beat Israel's Herško/Lankjano (24:22, 21:17), while Mārtiņš Pļaviņš/Kristians Fokerots lost to Israel's Elizar/Kuzmichov (19:21, 23:25).
In the afternoon, Točs/Auziņš secured a convincing win over Portugal (21:18, 21:14). In a tougher contest, Pļaviņš/Fokerots rallied from a draw in the second set to close the match 21:18, 21:19. To reach the quarterfinals, teams need at least third place in the group, while group winners advance directly to the semifinals. The next matches are scheduled for July 17 against Norwegian and Italian opponents.
