Flash floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet border region have killed more than 350 people. At least 35 Australian citizens are currently listed as missing as a result of the disaster.
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is working throughout the day to trace the missing Australians and make contact with their families. In response, the department has deployed a crisis support team to the region to assist with search efforts and provide support to those affected.
With the death toll already exceeding 350, the floods rank among the more severe recent natural disasters in the region. The flooding affected areas on both the Nepalese and Tibetan sides of the border, and the exact circumstances, along with the full extent of casualties and missing persons, are still being established.
The Australian government has said it will continue monitoring the situation and provide updated information on the search for missing citizens as it becomes available.
