The eighth stage of the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday brought a major shift in the overall classification of the multi-stage cycling race. Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar, who had been leading the race, suffered a crash and was forced to abandon. As a result, he will no longer be competing for the Vuelta a Espana title.

Pogacar's withdrawal allowed his previous pursuer, Spanish cyclist Enric Mas, to take over at the top of the general classification. Mas, who had been following Pogacar in the standings, now leads the race. The Slovenian rider's exit means the remaining stages will be contested without the former overall leader.

The crash occurred during the stage, and its immediate consequence was a change at the front of the race. With Pogacar out, the focus now shifts to Enric Mas, who holds the leader's position. The fight for the overall victory continues with a new name at the top.
