Pogačar becomes five-time Tour de France champion
Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar secured his fifth Tour de France title on Sunday, maintaining a comfortable lead in the final stage in Paris.
Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia has won the Tour de France for the fifth time, cementing his place among cycling's all-time greats. The 27-year-old rider from UAE Team Emirates - XRG has dominated the race for the last three years, having previously won in 2020 and 2021.
With this victory, Pogačar joins Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx, and Miguel Indurain – all five-time winners of the prestigious event.
The final, 21st stage covered nearly 89 kilometers in Paris, finishing on the Champs-Élysées. The route began with six short laps, followed by three longer laps that included the climb of Montmartre with its cobbled sections. Pogačar entered the stage with a lead of over six minutes, making his overall victory a foregone conclusion.
Stage honors went to Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin - Premier Tech), who won the sprint on the Champs-Élysées.
Among the finishers of the 2026 Tour de France were Latvian riders Toms Skujiņš and Krists Neilands.
