The fourth stage of the Tour de France, held in intense heat, brought significant changes to the general classification. Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar, who previously held the yellow jersey, lost the lead and dropped to fourth place overall.

The new race leader is Norwegian Torstein Traeen of Uno-X Mobility, who finished eighth in the stage but now leads American Sean Quinn by 28 seconds and Czech Mathias Vacek by 3 minutes 50 seconds. Pogacar trails by 7 minutes 53 seconds.

The 183-kilometer stage, which started near the famous Cité de Carcassonne fortress, was won by Denmark's Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek, followed by teammate Quinn Simmons. Spaniard Raul Garcia was third. Pedersen and Simmons finished with the same time of 4 hours 10 minutes 45 seconds.

The top ten in the general classification also includes riders like Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, and Juan Ayuso.
