Polaroid and Pokémon team up for a themed instant camera collection
Polaroid is releasing three Pokémon-themed instant cameras alongside matching film and accessories to mark the franchise's 30th anniversary. Preorders open August 25, with release set for October 5.
Polaroid and Pokémon are launching a joint collection to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary, offering redesigned versions of the Polaroid Go and Polaroid Now cameras alongside themed film and accessories.
Two compact editions
The two smaller cameras are based on the third-generation Polaroid Go. The Sylveon edition has a white and pink body with a multicolored strap inspired by the Eevee evolution's ribbons and bows, while the Pikachu edition features a yellow body and a strap shaped like Pikachu's tail. Both keep the compact, portable design of the original Go model but include the stronger flash and closer-focusing lens introduced in the third generation.
A pokéball-styled flagship
For a more capable option, Polaroid is also offering a Pokémon edition of its third-generation Now camera, which shoots full-sized instant film. It comes in the red, white and black colors of a pokéball, complete with a matching pokéball-shaped shutter button. This model includes improved ranging sensors for its dual-lens autofocus system and a repositioned light meter for more accurate exposures.
Film, accessories and pricing
Alongside the cameras, Polaroid will sell smaller Polaroid Go film with Pikachu and Sylveon frame designs, as well as Polaroid Color i-Type film featuring a wider range of Pokémon, including Togepi, Mew and Snorlax. A pokéball-shaped Polaroid Go case, a themed photo album and a matching camera strap will also be available. The film's dark slides carry Pokémon designs too, and Polaroid plans to launch an online portal for tracking which ones collectors have gathered.
The Sylveon and Pikachu editions of the Polaroid Go will each cost $100, while the Pokémon edition of the Polaroid Now will cost $140. Double packs of the Go film will sell for $25, and the i-Type film will cost $23. Preorders begin August 25, with items shipping October 5.
