Police complete probe into illegal programming and sale of TV consoles

This week, officers from the State Police’s Riga Regional Administration finished investigating a criminal case against a man suspected of conducting business activity for which a special prohibition existed. According to the investigation, the man was involved in the unauthorized programming of TV consoles and their subsequent sale.

The programmed consoles enabled users to access programmes that are prohibited in Latvia and have been excluded by the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP). Such programmes are considered to pose a threat to national security.

During the probe, law enforcement established that the man’s activities were aimed at preparing the devices in a way that allowed viewers to watch content banned under Latvian regulations. With the completion of the investigation, the police have concluded this stage of the criminal process.
