The Latgale Regional Office of the State Police has concluded an investigation into events in Kārsava, Ludza Municipality, and is recommending criminal charges against four individuals. The suspects are accused of attempting to extort money from three people.

According to police information, the offenders put the victims into a car against their will. During the incident, the victims suffered bodily injuries, which were inflicted through both shooting and beating. The investigation has concluded that the acts should be classified as extortion and other grave criminal offenses.

The case materials are now set to be handed to the prosecutor's office, which will decide whether to bring formal charges. The prosecutor will assess the collected evidence and determine further procedural steps. Until then, police have declined to disclose additional details, citing the need to ensure the integrity of the investigation.

If the prosecutor agrees with the police recommendation, the four individuals may be brought to court. Authorities emphasize that extortion is a serious crime targeting both property and personal safety, and such cases receive heightened attention during investigations.
