The Latvian State Police have initiated criminal proceedings against a coach of a children's and youth sports club on suspicion of sexual violence against a minor. The case has been opened under Section 160, Part 4 of the Criminal Law, which addresses sexual violence resulting in severe consequences or committed against a person under the age of 16.

The suspect has been arrested and remanded in custody as a security measure. Police are not providing further comments at this stage due to the ongoing investigation.

A representative of the sports club said that they were alerted to the alleged abuse by the child's parent. The club immediately reported the matter to the police, who conducted procedural actions at a sports camp where children aged 8 to 10 were training and subsequently detained the coach. The club has terminated all cooperation with the suspect.

The representative noted that the coach had worked with children and youth for several years without any prior complaints or suspicions. "There were no indications whatsoever that the coach could have any malicious intent towards children. If there had been any doubts earlier, he would never have worked with children," the representative emphasized.
