Police find no criminality in deaths of three sisters in Brighton sea

Sussex Police have concluded their investigation into the deaths of three sisters found in the sea off Brighton, saying no evidence has emerged of criminality or involvement by another person.

The bodies of Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were recovered near Black Rock on 13 May. A post-mortem examination determined that all three women died by drowning.

According to the police, the sisters were dropped off by taxi on Madeira Drive at around 22:20 BST on 12 May. Investigators found no evidence that they had entered any nightclubs or other local businesses afterwards. Up until the point their bodies were discovered, police said there was no indication the women had come to harm at the hands of any individual.

Inquest to follow

An inquest is expected to examine the precise circumstances of where, when and how the sisters died.

Ch Supt Adam Hays said the investigation had been complex and challenging from the outset, and that police had been mindful of public speculation and unanswered questions surrounding the case. He said the priority throughout had been finding the truth for the grieving family, and that the police inquiry has now concluded, unless new information comes to light.
