Police assistant fires at aggressive dog in Raasiku parish

Shortly before noon on Tuesday, August 4, a police assistant fired a shot in the direction of an aggressive dog in Kulli village, Raasiku parish. The shot was made to prevent the animal from attacking, according to police.
The incident began with a traffic accident. At 11:43 a.m., the emergency centre received a report of a crash at a railway crossing in Kulli village. An 87-year-old man had driven a Toyota into a road barrier.
A dog ran out of the crashed car and behaved aggressively. To eliminate the threat, the police assistant used his service weapon. Madis Allak, the operational director of the North prefecture, said there was a woman with a small child nearby, so the assistant fired toward the dog to remove the danger.
After the shot, the dog ran away from the scene. Police actively searched the surrounding area but could not find the animal immediately. Around 6 p.m., a relative of the man involved in the accident found the wounded dog and took it to a veterinarian.
Allak stressed that using a firearm in a public place is the most extreme measure and the police never resort to it lightly, including when dealing with animals. He added that the police will analyse the incident and check whether the assistant acted in accordance with safety requirements.
